YIZKOR - OCTOBER 24th 2024

What is Yizkor ?

Yizkor is a memorial prayer recited in honor of our departed loved ones, providing a sacred moment for remembrance and reflection. It is an ancient tradition to pause during the holiest times of the year to honor those who have passed away, acknowledging their impact on ourlives.
Yizkor is recited during four key Jewish holidays: Yom Kippur, Pesach, Shemini Atzeret, and Shavuot. This prayer is recited next to the Torah right before it is returned to the Ark, serving as a reminder of the eternal bond we share with those who have departed, elevating their souls and reinforcing our connection to G-d.
How do we do it?

Reciting Yizkor involves attending a synagogue service, where the prayer is chanted collectively during the morning prayer, just four times a year. Yizkor is recited right after the Haftara reading and next to the Torah right before it is returned to the Ark. The exact timing depends on the specific synagogue's timetable. To benefit and elevate the souls of our departed loved ones, as mentioned in the Yizkor prayer, we are obligated to give tzedakah. You can fulfill this mitzvah by clicking the button below, ensuring your donation goes to the best cause, bringing merit to their souls and helping our community.
